Akers Still 49ers' Kicker, Needs to 'Make the Play'

49ers' head coach Jim Harbaugh said troubled kicker David Akers is still on the team, but that he expects him to come through in the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

The 49ers worked out free agent kickers Nate Kaeding and Billy Cundiff last month after Akers went through yet another rough patch in his up-and-down season. Harbaugh said the team was just preparing for the worst after Akers' injury that week.

Harbaugh kept it brief on the topic of Akers on Monday.
“The specialists, sometimes they only get four or five opportunities a game. You’ve got to make the play,” Harbaugh said. “We’ve got to see him do it. We’ve got to see him make those plays."
